Coronavirus

Day 1, Friday, March 13th

I decided maybe I should add content to this blog so that once the Coronavirus has passed, I’ll have my thoughts stored in one place.

I woke up this morning around 6:15 AM to wake my son for middle school.  It generally takes going into his room four times before he actually gets out of bed.  Fortunately my husband was still home and he heard me going into the boy’s room.  He then told me school had been cancelled today.  I had not checked my email so I was happy he informed me.

Husband went into work and I fortunately? mostly work out of the house.  I had gone grocery shopping yesterday morning after the kids went to school so for the most part, I had everything we need here.  Kids were well behaved…while they were sleeping.  Once they got up….?!!?##!? Let’s just put it this way, we’ll be discussing expected behaviors for the school shut down this weekend.

I predicted school would be closed until at least after spring break.  Schools announced this afternoon they would be closed until April 10th at a minimum.  The kid’s think that means four weeks of no school work and summer vacation like escapades.  Their mother thinks differently….I’ll be researching some math and French options tonight, at least for the boy.

Around 4 o’clock the girl texted me to see if I could bring her some water at the school playground and to also bring some for her friends.  Right after she texted me this,  the boy arrived home and had a friend with him.  While I was filling up water for the girl I discovered neither child had emptied the dishwasher.  One of the MINIMAL jobs I asked them to do today….I then delivered the water to the girl on the school playground only to discover it was swarming with people. I am NOT a germ-o-phobe by any means.  But the volume of people at the school really concerned me and I think I will be restricting hanging out with friends to mean at the friend’s houses ONLY and ONLY with people who I know they are hanging out with.

Dinner tonight was comfort food for the whole family.  Mac&cheese.  And husband thankfully stopped at the wine store to bring some treats home for me.

So – hopefully this weekend the family will hash things out.  And I’m hoping that when I look back at this post in four weeks I see that my kids have been practicing math, reading, and French while they have been out of school.
