Day Eleven and Twelve – Driving Home

I never thought I would enjoy a long distance road trip, but I actually have. We woke up early to get started earlier. The difference between driving to Colorado and driving home is that driving to Colorado you gain two extra hours due to time changes, but driving home you lose two extra hours. Once again, we were hoping to do the trip in two days.

We chose a different route home. Our route home we went the Northern route which took us through Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. I think at one point we were a mile away from Michigan. We should have gotten off the interstate and driven into Michigan so the kids could say they had been there.

We ended up driving from Vail, CO all the way to Davenport, Iowa the first night. We stayed in downtown Davenport at a hotel that had been decorated very stylishly. We were upgraded to a larger room and even though we arrived very late, we enjoyed the extra space.

We got up the next day early again. Before heading east we stopped at Antique Archaeology, the storefront for the TV show American Pickers. Unfortunately we were there way before they opened so the best we could do was take a picture of the store.

Day Twelve was much the same as Day Eleven. Lots of driving, stopping for gas, snacks, and meals. The kids were so well behaved on the trip. We made it home late.

Going into this trip, I wasn’t too excited about the road trip part of it, but at the end of the trip I learned that road trips are really cool. I was so glad we were able to take this vacation and escape our house during these Corona times.
